Fourth quarter: 4.4% increase in profit of listed banks

Mumbai: Listed banks recorded a cumulative net profit of Rs 94,228 crore in the fourth quarter of FY 2024-25, which records a 4.4 percent increase in net profit on an annual basis. It is noteworthy that IndusInd Bank, the fifth largest bank in India’s private sector, has recorded a net loss of Rs 2,000 crore in the financial year 2014-15. There was a turnover of Rs 2329 crore in the fourth quarter. Which is due to losses in derivatives and microfinance accounting.

In this quarter, the increase in net interest income of banks was in singles points, with the growth rate of private sector banks 4.5 percent and the growth rate of public sector banks was 2.7 percent. It has also been observed that the net interest margin has come down from 3.2 per cent of the previous year to 3 per cent, keeping in mind the full impact of the change in deposit rates in FY 2025. While the net interest margin has declined in FY 2025, the finance cost has decreased by 10 basis points, which has some effect on profitability.
