News India Live, Digital Desk: ‘Garuda Purana’, one of the 18 Mahapuranas of Sanatan Dharma, reveals the deep secrets of life and death. This Purana, composed in the form of a dialogue between Lord Vishnu and his vehicle Garuda, tells that death is an inevitable truth, but before leaving the body, the soul experiences some sensations which cannot be seen with ordinary eyes. According to spiritual writings released on Saturday (28 March 2026), recognizing these signs is considered the first step in preparation for salvation.

1. When your own ‘shadow’ disappears (Missing Shadow)

According to Garuda Purana, when the body made of five elements starts losing its radiance, then the person stops seeing his shadow. Whether he looks in oil, water or sunlight, his shape appears blurred or missing. In astrology, it is considered to be the biggest symptom of depletion of ‘life force’.

2. Visions of Ancestors & Yamdoot

As death approaches, a person’s consciousness begins to connect with other worlds:

Darshan of ancestors: The person sees his dead ancestors laughing or calling him.

Frightening Scenes: Garuda Purana says that sinful humans start seeing terrible Yamdoots, while virtuous souls see divine light and benign figures. During this time the person is often unable to say anything due to fear.

3. Life Flashback

What is called ‘Life Review’ in scientific language was described thousands of years ago in Garuda Purana. At the last moment, a person starts remembering every small and big action (good and bad) of his life like a movie. This is the moment when the soul repents for its deeds.

4. Fading Palm Lines

Both palmistry and Garuda Purana confirm that the lines of destiny are made and undone by actions. When the time of death is very close (a few hours or days left), the main lines of the palm, the life line, heart line and fate line, suddenly start feeling very light or disappear completely.

5. Deserted Cave and the Divine Gate (The Death Gate)

Often the dying person murmurs that he sees light at the end of a dark tunnel or cave. According to Garuda Purana, this is the path that leads the soul to the next world. It is called the ‘door of death’, from where return is not possible.

6. Physical and sensory changes

According to the Puranas, before death the senses of a person’s nose, tongue and ears become weak. He neither tastes nor smells food. A strange yellowness or blackness appears on the face, which is a sign of the beginning of biological death.
