During the first Adani Global Indology Conclave organized by the Adani Group, Chairman Gautam Adani announced an ambitious mission to preserve India’s cultural knowledge heritage for the digital age. He committed to contribute ₹ 100 crore to build a unique digital framework called India Knowledge Graph. The objective of this platform is to systematically integrate, store and future-proof India’s knowledge heritage.
The three-day Global Indology Conclave is a joint initiative of Adani Group and the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Department of the Ministry of Education. Its main objective is to revive Indology, the global academic study of Indian culture, languages, philosophy, science and heritage.
Gautam Adani in his speech said, “As a start, I am contributing ₹100 crore to build the India Knowledge Graph and support the scholars and technologists who join this mission. This is just a reflection of our cultural debt.” The special guest of the program was Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswatiji (Jyotirmath). He said:
Adani said, “When I assumed the post of Shankaracharya, I had said that this post would have real significance only when India becomes a world leader. Today, Gautam Adani ji’s initiative is a big step towards realizing that dream.”
Conference at Adani Corporate House
This conference is being organized from 20 to 22 November at Adani Corporate House, Ahmedabad. At a time when the number of Indology departments is declining in many universities around the world, this initiative is an effort to revive India’s knowledge-based ownership and present it to the world from a research-based, Indian perspective.
Gautam Adani further said, “If a culture does not protect its value system, human behavior will gradually move towards machine algorithms. This change will be quiet but profound and will change the way we think about our country.”
This partnership, which aligns Adani Group’s nation building commitment with IKS’s vision of linking traditional knowledge with modern education, established under NEP 2020, seeks to recapture India’s ancient knowledge heritage in today’s era.
Will focus on different topics
Indology has historically shaped India’s global influence in fields such as linguistics, astronomy, mathematics, governance, literature, and health sciences. But its development has been hampered by lack of institutional support for decades. To address this challenge, Adani Group and IKS have launched a special program to provide support to 14 PhD scholars for five years. His research will focus on topics such as political grammar, computational linguistics, ancient astronomy, indigenous health systems, environmental engineering, political thought, heritage studies and classical literature.
These students have been selected through a national consultation process of IITs, IIMs, IKS focused universities and eminent scholars. This study, integrated with modern technologies such as data science, systems thinking and multi-modal archiving, will make Indology more relevant in modern academic discourse.
