Introduction of e-passport: Now chip-enabled e-passports are being issued to children also. In this, the biometric data of the child will be safe, which will make security and identification easier during international travel.

Essentiality of Birth Certificate: For children born after October 1, 2023 birth certificate Now the only official proof of date of birth. In earlier cases other documents (like Aadhaar or PAN) can be used.

Relief for single parents: Under the new rules, now single parents (only mother or father) can easily apply for a child’s passport. Now it is no longer mandatory to give the names of both parents in the application.

Self-Declaration: Now there is no need to get the documents attested by any notary or magistrate. Parents can give consent through ‘Self-Decoration’ (Annexure D/C) on plain paper.

You will need the following main documents for a children’s passport:

Proof of Birth: Birth certificate issued by Municipal Corporation or Registrar.

proof of address: Current address proof of one of the parents (Aadhar card, electricity bill, or bank passbook).

Parents’ passports: Police verification of the child can be waived if the parents have a valid passport.

Annexure D: Consent letter signed by both the parents.

how to apply? (Step-by-Step)

Registration: Create an account for your child by visiting the official website passportindia.gov.in.

Fill the form: Select ‘Fresh Passport’ option and fill in the details of the child.

Appointment: Pay Fees Online and Nearest PSK Or POPSK Book a time slot in.

Verification: On the scheduled date the child and parents (both or one) have to go to the center with the original documents. It is mandatory for children below 4 years to carry a photograph with a white background.
