Global Triumph for Indian Cinema: Allu Arjun and Atlee Clinch Guinness World Record on the Sets of ‘Raaka’

In a historic milestone for Indian cinema on the global stage, superstar Allu Arjun and blockbuster director Atlee have officially entered the Guinness Book of World Records on the sets of their highly anticipated sci-fi epic, Raaka. The production achieved the world record for the “Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time,” successfully capturing the performances of 37 actors simultaneously within a single motion-capture session.

The certification was formally presented on set by Swapnil Dangrikar, Senior Adjudicator at Guinness World Records, to lead actor Allu Arjun, director Atlee (V. Arunkumar), and the team of Sun Pictures. The landmark recognition marking the Telugu superstar’s maiden collaboration with Atlee was achieved in Mumbai and officially certified ahead of the filmmaker’s 40th birthday.

A Record-Breaking Technological Feat: 92 Cameras and 37 Performers

Pushing the boundaries of domestic virtual production, the record-shattering sequence featured 37 live performers spanning a diverse age spectrum—ranging from a 4-year-old child to a 70-year-old senior—all tracked together inside an expansive capture volume. Motion capture (mocap) translates real physical actions into CGI avatars, an exercise that becomes exponentially intricate as multiple bodies interact without signal collisions or tracking distortion.

To execute the shot without latency or dropouts, the visual effects and technical teams engineered a bespoke motion-capture pipeline. The rig deployed 92 high-precision optical motion-capture cameras, fully synced with real-time Unreal Engine visualization, facial-tracking systems, and multi-angle witness cameras. The custom technical infrastructure was supported directly by Sun Pictures’ producer Kalanithi Maran, establishing an in-house setup of international calibre.

‘Pushing the Boundaries of Cinema’: Allu Arjun and Atlee React

Speaking on receiving the Guinness World Record certificate, Allu Arjun expressed immense pride in taking domestic storytelling onto the global map:

“We are extremely proud of this remarkable achievement, which pushes the boundaries of cinema and sets a new benchmark on a global scale. It is a proud moment for the entire team, and we are grateful to Guinness World Records for officially recognising this feat. This achievement would not have been possible without the vision and direction of Mr Atlee and the relentless dedication of our crew.”

Director Atlee, who noted that he has nurtured the core concept of Raaka for over 18 years, termed the recognition surreal and deeply humbling. The filmmaker emphasized that the milestone serves as proof that ambitious domestic productions can match and surpass international visual effects benchmarks, with technicians who previously contributed to Hollywood franchises like Avatar, Planet of the Apes, and Jumanji collaborating on the project.

Monumental Scale of ‘Raaka’

Mounted on an estimated massive budget, Raaka is being designed as a two-part visual spectacle spanning two distinct eras—a raw, ancient Vedic-tribal setting and a high-concept contemporary timeline. The film stars Deepika Padukone alongside Allu Arjun, with pivotal roles played by Rashmika Mandanna, Janhvi Kapoor, and Mrunal Thakur, and a music score composed by sensation Sai Abhyankkar.

With the first look showcasing Allu Arjun in a fierce, beast-like avatar featuring a shaved head, kohl-lined eyes, and animalistic claws, the film’s official Guinness entry cements Raaka as one of the most technologically daring productions ever mounted in Asian cinema.
