Gold rates experienced a mild downward correction across major Indian cities on September 21, providing marginal relief to retail buyers, jewelers, and festival shoppers ahead of the upcoming festive rush. The price adjustment comes on the back of shifting cues in international bullion markets, currency rate fluctuations, and localized demand-supply balancing across spot commodity exchanges. Following several sessions of elevated trading, physical spot rates in leading metropolitan hubs saw slight dips in both 22-carat (jewelry standard) and 24-carat (pure bullion) categories.
Market observers noted that bullion traders remained cautious amid international macroeconomic developments, central bank interest rate trajectories, and crude price movements, which collectively impacted gold contract trends on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).
City-Wise Rates: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai
Due to variations in local state levies, octroi charges, transport costs, and municipal bullion association guidelines, retail gold prices differ across key regions. In national and commercial centers, the revised rates for 10 grams reflected marginal reductions:
-
Delhi: In the national capital, 24-carat gold hovered around ₹1,54,420 per 10 grams, while 22-carat jewelry gold dropped to approximately ₹1,41,552 per 10 grams.
-
Mumbai: Financial hub spot prices for 24-carat gold were quoted at around ₹1,54,690 per 10 grams, with standard 22-carat gold resting near ₹1,41,799 per 10 grams.
-
Kolkata: In eastern markets, pure 24-carat gold traded near ₹1,54,480 per 10 grams, whereas 22-carat gold stood at approximately ₹1,41,607 per 10 grams.
-
Chennai: Down south, where bullion consumption remains high, 24-carat gold stood at approximately ₹1,55,140 per 10 grams, and 22-carat jewelry gold was listed near ₹1,42,212 per 10 grams.
Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Regional Hubs
In southern tech and jewelry centers such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad, gold prices closely aligned with broader peninsular trends. In Bengaluru, 24-carat gold stood at roughly ₹1,54,810 per 10 grams and 22-carat traded around ₹1,41,909 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, Hyderabad recorded 24-carat gold at ₹1,54,930 per 10 grams and 22-carat gold at ₹1,42,019 per 10 grams.
Industry experts advise buyers to keep in mind that quoted spot rates exclude the mandatory 3% Goods and Services Tax (GST), hallmarking charges, and jeweler-specific making charges, which vary depending on design complexity and retailer policies. With the festive season approaching, market analysts expect physical demand to support price floors even as international macro factors induce intermittent short-term volatility.
