Karnataka Paid Menstrual Leave: The Karnataka government, which has shown awareness about women’s menstruation, has now given relief news for women. Siddaramaiah Cabinet today announced leave during menstruation for women employees of the state. With this, Karnataka has joined the list of states in the country which have issued orders granting leave to women during their menstrual cycle. The state government has announced that from now on, all women employees working in government offices, garment industries, multinational companies, IT companies and other private sector organizations across the state will get one day of paid menstrual leave every month.
The Karnataka government has taken an important step to give priority to the health and welfare of women. The government says that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the health, comfort and mental balance of working women. The cabinet note issued said, “This decision has been taken keeping in mind the health and welfare of working women and with the aim of promoting a more inclusive and supportive work environment.”
This order will provide physical and mental relief to women employees.
The initiative aims not only to provide physical and mental relief to female employees, but also to create awareness about menstrual health and promote a culture of treating the topic from a normal and sensitive perspective at the workplace. The government hopes that through this policy, private companies will also adopt a more sensitive and supportive approach towards women employees, thereby creating a healthy and equal work environment.
Karnataka Law Minister H.K. Patil said that this decision of the government will greatly benefit working women. Speaking to the media after the cabinet meeting, he said, “This decision of the Karnataka government will be very helpful for women. This policy has been successful in other states and we have decided to adopt it.” It is noteworthy that with this decision, Karnataka government has become the first state in the country to do so. Any private sector company can implement this rule. So far, companies like Swiggy, Zomato, Byju’s, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and GoJup have announced to give paid leave to women during menstruation.
