The long wait of lakhs of central employees of the country for the 8th Pay Commission is now about to end. The government has issued a notification regarding the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission, after the implementation of which there will be a huge increase in the salaries, pensions and allowances of the employees. The government has also finalized the names of the chairman and members of the commission, which will conduct a comprehensive review of the salary, pension and other benefits of the employees.
Who are the Chairman and members of the Commission?
According to the government notification, the leadership of the Eighth Pay Commission Justice Ranjana Desai Will do, who has been appointed Chairman of the Commission. With him, IIM Ahmedabad Professor Pulak Ghosh Part-time member and former Finance Secretary Pankaj Jain has been inducted as Member Secretary.

The new pay commission will not only increase your basic salary, but will also review many other things, which will provide all-round benefits to the employees:
- Basic salary will increase: The Commission will review the salary structure, due to which there is sure to be a bumper increase in the basic salary of the employees.
- Allowances will be reviewed: The Commission will examine the existing allowances and may recommend a new and workable system by eliminating allowances which are no longer relevant.
- You will get performance based bonus: A new ‘performance-based incentive scheme’ may be suggested to reward employees doing good work, which will further improve the working environment.
- Reforms in Pension and Gratuity: The Commission will make recommendations to improve gratuity and pension for employees covered under both NPS and the Old Pension Scheme, which will further strengthen the financial security of employees after retirement.
- Government jobs will become more attractive: A major goal of the Commission is to ensure that the salary level of government employees is at par with that of the private sector and public sector undertakings (PSUs), so that the attractiveness of government jobs remains.
When will the report come and when will the benefit be available?
The government has given the commission time to submit its report within 18 months. According to the notification, if the Commission November 2025 starts its work from May 2027 There is full hope that its final report will come by then. After the implementation of the report, employees will start getting increased salary and other benefits.
