Google Closed 11,000 Channels, Know the Real Reason Behind This

News India Live, Digital Desk: Action on YouTube: The news of a big ‘Operation Cleanup’ has been revealed on the world’s largest video-sharing platform YouTube. In the first quarter of 2025, YouTube and its parent company Google have removed around 11,000 YouTube channels from their platforms. This action has been taken against the platform rules and policies violating channels and videos, mainly due to ‘misleading information’ and ‘spam’ content. This reflects the constantly increasing strictness on Google’s content moderation.

Google has explained through its official blog posts and transparency reports that it was violating the removable channels and videos, their community guidelines and user policies. The reasons for which these channels were acted are prominent:

Misleading information and fake news: Channels that were spreading wrong, misleading or harmful information were immediately closed. This may include wrong information related to election, false claims related to health, and any kind of malicious propaganda.

Spam and Scam: Many channels were involved in spam activities, such as fake promises, fraud offers, or automated generated content that are only for advertising clicks. These users spoil the experience and also threaten security.

Violation of community guidelines: Strict prohibited content such as violence provoking content, child sexual abuse materials, hate language, threats or disturbing videos were also permanently closed.

Metadeta manipulation: Some channels manipulate video descriptions, tags or thumbnails to show them up in search, while the video content is something else. It misleads the audience and Google is strict against such practices.

Google’s move reflects its commitment to keep its platform safe and reliable. This shows that technology companies are now taking serious action on wrong information and harmful content being spread online.

Removing these channels may not make much difference on the total video and number of creators on YouTube, but this improves the reliability and quality of the platform, which eventually creates a better environment for real and useful content creators. This action is a clear message that if the content creators do not follow the rules of YouTube, they will be removed from the platform.
