News India Live, Digital Desk: These days we all rely heavily on Google Maps for directions, don’t we? If you don’t know the route, you take out your phone and the maps immediately tell you. But sometimes this technique can also put you in a lot of trouble, especially when there is no signal or the maps themselves show a wrong path! One such shocking incident has come to light, where five people, relying on Google Maps, got lost in a dense forest from where it had become impossible to get out.
What was the whole matter?
This incident took place in Anjuna area of Goa, where a group of five friends were on the way using Google Maps. The maps showed them a path which at first seemed normal, but soon they reached a deserted and dense forest. The car could not move ahead on that bad road and got stuck there.
The situation became even more dire when they got stuck all alone in the forest, where there was no help in sight and there was no signal on the phone. It was becoming night and the fear started increasing in the darkness.
Police help and then came out like this:
Luckily, friends tried to call the 112 emergency helpline as a last hope. After a lot of efforts, a call was received and the police was able to get some information about their location. As soon as the information was received, the staff of Anjuna Police Station and the local Fire and Emergency Service team immediately got involved in the rescue operation.
Despite the darkness of the night and the difficulties of the jungle, the team estimated the possible location of their friends with the help of wireless networks. After hours of hard work and cutting trees and bushes, finally the police and fire brigade teams were able to reach those friends. It was difficult to get the vehicle out, so the rescue team took all five friends out of the forest safely on foot. This entire operation took till midnight, after which those friends heaved a sigh of relief.
This incident reminds us that even though Google Maps makes our lives easier, always keep your eyes open, especially when you are in an unknown or risky area. Along with technology, it is also very important to take common sense and advice of local people.
