Winter season comes with cold winds and air pollution. Dust, smoke and pollutants present in this season can cause many problems to our eyes. During this period, problems like dryness, irritation, allergy and infection in the eyes become common. Therefore, it is important to adopt some simple and regular care habits to maintain the health of your eyes. Let us learn about these important habits in detail from Dr. Digvijay Singh, MBBS from AIIMS and experienced ophthalmologist.
01). protective measures (protection)
Wear protective glasses: Wear sunglasses or protective glasses when going outside (especially in foggy or dusty environments). It protects your eyes from cold wind, dust and harmful UV rays.
Limit outdoor activities: Avoid outdoor activities in the morning and evening when pollution levels (AQI) are very high.
Keep the air in your home clean: Keep windows closed during peak hours and use an air purifier if possible.
0 2) Keep your eyes moist (moisturization)
Stay hydrated: Drink as much water as possible to keep your body hydrated. If there is enough water in the body, tear production will be maintained and dryness of the eyes will be reduced.
Lubricating Eye Drops: Use lubricating (artificial tears) eye drops as prescribed by your doctor. These drops help keep your eyes moist and provide relief from irritation.
Use of humidifier: If you use a room heater, you should use a humidifier to reduce the dryness it causes.
03) Hygiene and Screen Time
Wash your hands: Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes. Make it a habit to wash your hands and face thoroughly to remove dust particles immediately after coming from outside.
20-20-20 Rule: When using a digital screen, focus on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. This relaxes the eye muscles and reduces dryness of the eyes.
For eye health, include nutrients rich in vitamins A, C and omega-3 fatty acids such as carrots, spinach, almonds and fish in your diet, and getting enough sleep and getting regular eye exams also helps keep your eyes healthy.
