High alert in India amid Iran-America war, Home Ministry’s strict warning to states, increased surveillance at every nook and corner

News India Live, Digital Desk: Amidst the worsening situation in Gulf countries, the Indian government has taken a big step regarding internal security. Intelligence agencies have expressed apprehension that by taking advantage of international incidents, anti-social elements may try to incite communal tension or violence in the country.

1. Strict advisory from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to the states

The Union Home Ministry has written a letter to all the states and union territories asking them to be alert:

Keep an eye on inflammatory statements: Instructions have been given to keep a close watch on inflammatory speeches or statements related to war on social media and in public meetings.

2. Security of embassies and diplomatic missions

Given the direct involvement of America and Israel in the war, the threat to their embassies in India has increased:

Siege of Israeli-American bases: Security at the Israeli and US embassies in Delhi as well as the Chabad House and other Jewish religious places has been increased manifold.

Intelligence Sharing: Intelligence agencies (IB and RAW) have been activated to share real-time information with the state police.

3. Special attention on ‘pro-Iran’ preachers

According to reports, the Home Ministry has asked to identify and keep an eye on those ‘pro-Iran’ preachers and radical elements who can spoil the atmosphere at the local level by taking the help of international incidents. In the advisory issued on February 28, it has been clearly stated that the devastation happening abroad should not affect the country (India).

4. What is there for ordinary citizens and expatriates?

The Indian government is concerned not only about domestic security but also about Indians stranded abroad:

Helpline Number: 24/7 control rooms have been activated for Indians stranded in Gulf countries.

Flight Cancellation: After more than 350 international flights were cancelled, passengers have been advised to check the status before going to the airport.

Visa Relief: Instructions have been issued to FRRO to grant visa extension to foreign nationals stranded in India.
