News India Live, Digital Desk: Holy Month of Sawan: The holy month of Sawan is considered very important for devotion and worship of Lord Shiva. During this time, devotees perform various rituals, worship and fast to please Shiva and get his grace. But in our scriptures like Shivpuran and Skanda Purana, special emphasis has been laid not only on external worship, but also on internal purification and restraint. An important thing in this is to follow celibacy throughout the month of Sawan. Why Brahmacharya is so important? Sawan month is considered to be the time of self-restraint, penance and self-purification. According to Skanda Purana, this is the period when devotees should control their five senses – listening, touching, sniffing and taste – to control. Brahmacharya means not only physical restraint, but also to maintain purity mentally and emotionally. This is an important step towards Shiva’s satvic devotion. Why is there restraint on the senses? It is believed that the person can calm and concentrate the mind only by controlling the senses. When our mind is calm, only then we are completely absorbed in the worship of God. The month of Sawan is the period of penance. The fruit of our penance can be interrupted by any kind of sensory happiness done during this period. By following celibacy, our energy is upwards, which helps in spiritual progress and purification of the mind. What to do and what not to do? According to Skanda Purana, food should also be sattvic and ordinary in the month of Sawan. During this time, consumption of non -vegetarian, tamasic food and alcohol should be avoided. Also, sleeping on a very comfortable bed should also be avoided, but if possible, sleeping on the ground is considered more auspicious. All these practices inspire us to live a simple and restrained life by keeping us away from bhog luxury. When we purify ourselves physically and mentally, we control our desires, it brings positive energy to the mind and brings purity in thoughts. This pure feelings and loyalty is the most loved to Mahadev. He is happy and gives the devotees desired fruits, defeats the sufferings and paves the way to attain salvation. In the intervention, celibacy in the spring is not just a religious rule, but a powerful medium of self-discipline, mental peace and spiritual progress, by which Shiva devotees can attain the immense grace of Mahadev.
