What is the name and function of this app?

The government has launched a special mobile app to protect customers from fraud, named “BIS Care App”This is the official app of Bureau of Indian Standards, which can tell you in seconds whether the gold you are buying or about to buy is real or fake.

How does this ‘digital spy’ work?

This app is very easy to use and you do not need to be an expert for this.

1. First of all from Google Play Store or Apple App Store “BIS Care App” Download and install it on your phone.
2. Open the app and enter your name and mobile number. An OTP will come, through which your number will be verified.
3. Now on the homepage of the app you will see “Verify HUID” An option will appear. You just have to click on this.

HUID: The gold ‘Aadhaar card’

Now you might be wondering what is this HUID? HUID means Hallmark Unique Identification NumberThis is a 6 digit alphanumeric code (eg AXC4B5) written with a laser on every piece of jewellery. This is the real identity of your jewellery, just like your Aadhar card. The government has now made it mandatory to have this number on every gold jewellery.

This is how gold will be exposed

All you have to do is enter the HUID number written on your jewelery in the app and press the ‘Search’ button. In the blink of an eye the app will show you the complete horoscope of that jewellery, like this:

• Jeweler’s Name: Who has sold it?
• Hallmarking Center Name: Where was its accuracy checked?
• Real Purity of Gold: How many karat is it – 22K916 or 18K750.
• Jewelry Type: Is it a ring, a necklace or something else.

If all the information shown on the app matches your bill and your jewellery, then congratulations, your gold is 100% pure. But if the HUID number shows ‘Invalid’ or the information is wrong, then understand that you have been cheated. In such a situation, you can directly complain about that jeweler by going to the ‘Complaints’ section of this app.
