New Delhi: The numbers will be in favour of Jay Shah being elected the next ICC chairman. Meanwhile, it is not clear whether the world governing body will decide to join the organisation or not. So who will replace him as BCCI secretary. Shah is believed to have the support of 15 of the 16 members of the ICC board, but he has time to decide whether he wants to take up the post or not. So there is still a year left in his second consecutive term as BCCI secretary. The new ICC chairman will take charge from December 1 and the last date for filing nominations is August 27. The mandatory three-year cooling-off period for Shah to return to the richest cricket board will begin after his term ends in October 2025. But it is a big question who will replace him in the BCCI as he and those close to him have not yet revealed immediate plans. Let's take a look at the potential candidate.
Rajeev Shukla
It is likely that the BCCI will reshuffle the posts and current vice-president and Congress MP in Rajya Sabha Rajeev Shukla will be asked to do this job for a year. Shukla will certainly have no problem in becoming the secretary.
Ashish Shelar
Maharashtra BJP veteran Shelar is the treasurer of BCCI and a big name in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) administration. However, Shelar is a shrewd politician and will have to bide his time for the BCCI secretary post. But he too can join the race.
Indian Premier League chairman Arun Dhumal
He has experience of running a board. He has been the treasurer and president of IPL.
Devajit Saikia
Devjit is not a popular name, but he is an important link in the current BCCI administration, who can be promoted.
The Contender
Among the young administrators, Delhi & District Cricket Association president Rohan Jaitley or former Bengal Cricket Association president Avishek Dalmiya can be discussed. Other young officials of the state unit include Dilsher Khanna from Punjab, Vipul Fadke from Goa and Prabhtej Bhatia from Chhattisgarh.
