The recently concluded Paris Olympics were surrounded by many controversies, but the most talked about topic was a female boxer being a man. The controversy was that Algerian female boxer Iman Khalifa is actually a man, which resulted in an uproar on social media by sports fans and celebrities around the world. In this controversy, two very famous personalities have also filed their tax case against Iman.
Who was sued?
25-year-old Iman won the gold medal in the 66 kg weight category, but even then the fishes keep hovering over her. American billionaire businessman Elon Musk and the world-famous British author of Harry Potter novels J.K. Rowling wrote posts against Iman on social media and Iman has filed a case against both of them.
Who wrote what?
American swimmer Riley Gaines shared a post with Khalif's picture on the social media platform 'X' and wrote, 'Men cannot be a part of women's sports.' Elon Musk re-shared that tweet by writing 'absolutely' on it.
J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter novels, criticized Iman's controversial boxing match photo on 'X' and wrote something like this, 'A man who punches a woman in the head and shatters her ambition is laughing at the woman's trouble because he knows that in the world of sports nothing is going to happen to them because of the unjust laws against women.'
Iman has filed a case of cyber-bullying against them and said that she is being defamed by the statements of both of them.
What was the incident?
In the boxing match between Iman Khalifa and Italy's 'Angela Carini' at the Olympics, Iman's punches were so powerful that Angela had to quit boxing after just 46 seconds. I cried in pain. After that match, there was a controversy over Iman's 'gender'. Iman was accused of being physically male.
Won gold despite the ban
The International Boxing Association (IBA) had disqualified Iman Khalifa from the World Championship after she failed a gender test. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed Iman to participate in the Olympics even though it was proven that her chromosomes were male and she had very high levels of male hormones in her body.
A fellow boxer claims- Iman is a man
Meanwhile, a new spark has flared up in this controversy. Bulgarian-Nigerian female boxer Joanna Nawameru, who trained with Iman, has claimed, 'Iman is a man. I saw Iman's 'strength' and 'technique' when we were practicing together for the Olympics in February 2024. It was all the same as the male boxers. I have a record of everything.'
Joanna challenged Iman and said, 'No matter what anyone says, I am not ready to accept her as a woman. If she is a woman, then prove it through proper testing.' But I know that no test will do this.
God knows where the controversy of women boxers being men will end. There are so many questions. What will happen in Iman's case? Does Joanna really have proof or is she just talking in the air for free publicity? If there is proof, they will reveal it to the world, right? Will Iman undergo gender test? And if she does, what will be the result? Based on the result, will she keep the gold medal she won or will it be taken away? Will there be any solution to this controversy or will everything be forgotten with time? The answer to many such questions will be known when the time comes.
