New Delhi: Passengers planning to travel from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi are advised to contact the airline before their journey and check their flight status. The airport has recently issued an important advisory for passengers, due to the changing airspace situation over Iran and Iraq in the Middle East as well as upgradation of a major runway.

According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the schedule of some flights has been changed due to the changing conditions of the airspace in Iran and the surrounding area. Additionally, from 15 June to 15 September, a busy runway (RW 10/28) of the airport will remain closed to upgrade the Instrument Landing System (ILS).The purpose of this upgrade is to ensure safe operation of flights during dense fog in winter months.

For these reasons, some airlines have to divert or resade their flights. Officials say about 114 daily flights will be canceled during the runway upgradation and 86 will be rescheduled for non-piece hours.

Advice for passengers:

  • Check flight conditions: Before starting your journey, get the latest information of your flight schedule from the respective airline.

  • Trust official sources: To avoid any kind of misinformation, only rely on the official statements of Airlines and Delhi Airport.

  • Reach premature time: Keeping in mind the additional time taken in security checks, it has been advisable to reach the airport early.

Although these changes may cause some inconvenience to passengers, officials say these steps are required to improve the safety and efficiency of flight operations over the long term. Many airlines including Air India have released a list of affected flights and urged passengers to cooperate.
