News India Live, Digital Desk: A case has come to light from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, which is considered the ‘Mecca’ of the medical world, which has shaken the medical education system of the entire country. Students who once topped NEET UG on the basis of their hard work and intelligence are now taking the help of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ (AI) to pass the internal examinations of MBBS. This matter of cheating through ChatGPT by first year MBBS students of AIIMS Delhi has now reached the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Toilet became ‘control room’, conspiracy hatched with mobile and AI
What has been revealed in the investigation is no less than a film script. It is being told that during the examination, some students were repeatedly asking permission to go to the toilet. On suspicion, when the flying squad and security personnel searched the toilet, mobile phones hidden behind the flush tank and tiles were recovered. ‘ChatGPT’ was open in these mobile phones, through which students were finding answers to difficult medical questions and writing them in their answer sheets.
Questions raised on falling standards of NEET toppers
Surprisingly, those students who had secured top rank in the NEET UG examination, which is considered to be the toughest in the country, have been found involved in this game of cheating. The AIIMS administration is surprised by the fact that the students who reached here by beating lakhs of children, are now having to take wrong help of technology to pass. According to sources, photographs of examination question papers were also found in the phones recovered from the arrested students, which were planned to be sent to some expert outside.
Big action by AIIMS administration, preparation to cancel the exam?
After this incident, there has been a stir in the administrative corridors of AIIMS Delhi. An internal inquiry committee has been formed hastily. The arrested students have been currently suspended and a decision on their future will be taken after the committee’s report. The administration is also investigating how despite such tight security the students were able to take their mobile phones from the examination hall to the toilet. Is there any staff involvement in this? This angle is also being looked into.
Misuse of technology becomes a big challenge in medical education
Experts believe that misuse of AI tools like ChatGPT is now becoming a headache for education institutions. In medical studies, where nuances and in-depth knowledge are required, such shortcut method is not only playing with the future of the students, but it can also become a threat to the lives of the patients in the future. NMC is now considering installing jammers at examination centers and issuing instructions for strict biometric testing for all medical colleges.
