The Indian Navy is going to take another big step towards strengthening its warfare and self -reliance. On June 18, 2024, ‘INS Arnala’ will be formally included in the Navy at Karnataka Karwar naval base. The vessel is the first ship in the ‘ASW SWC) category, designed to significantly increase the capabilities of the Indian Navy.

‘INS Arnal’ will replace the old ‘Abhay’ category anti -submarine (Abhay Class Asw Corvettes) of the Indian Navy. A total of 16 warships of this category are being constructed. Of these, the contract for the first eight grandson was given to Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. ‘INS Arnal’ and ‘INS Androth’ are two ships of this first batch. These vessels are named on the important islands of the country, the name ‘Arnal’ is named after the historic Arnal Island located near Vasai in Maharashtra.

This vessel is fully indigenously built, which also shows Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Self -reliant India’ campaign. This is an important example of the progress made in India’s defense manufacturing capabilities. The ‘Arnal’ category warship is designed to detect, track and destroy submarines, especially in coastal areas. These ships can also do important tasks such as low intensity maritime operations – Limo, Limo and Monitoring. They are expected to be around 40 years old.

The inclusion of ‘INS Arnal’ in the Navy will further strengthen Indian maritime security and strengthen the role of the Indian Navy in ensuring regional maritime security. It also shows our commitment to a modern and self -sufficient Navy, ready to face the security challenges of the country.
