News India Live, Digital Desk: On the occasion of this Independence Day 2025, a historic moment came for four remote and inaccessible villages of Maharashtra, when for the first time after 78 years of independence, the national flag was formally hoisted by the Gram Panchayat in these villages. These villages are located in Junnar taluka in Pune district, including Kolhe Vasti, Nandur, Malegarh and Dhangarwadi (which is part of the Khadakvan village group). There was no paved road till these villages till now, and they were also deprived of basic facilities for several decades of independence. This day of August 15 was very special for people living in these villages, because it was not only the celebration of a national festival, but also a symbol of reaching their homes of government machinery and facilities. Being located in the hilly areas and inaccessible terrain, these villages were not connected to any government scheme till the sixties. However, in the past, these villages have been able to get contact with the outside world in the past only after the construction of roads and the basic facilities like electricity and drinking water. Before today, villagers have been hoisting the tricolor personally on their homes in these villages, but there was never an opportunity to hoist the flag at any official place by the gram panchayat. This responsibility is on the secretary of the Gram Panchayat, but due to not being easy to reach these villages, it was not possible earlier. This year, for the first time, the Gram Panchayat Secretary formally hoisted the tricolor in these four villages, which saw the feeling of immense pride and enthusiasm among the villagers, the village in the lap of the Western Ghats and Sahyadri mountain range of Putle, these villages in the lap, were victims of extreme neglect in the past. There was a lack of facilities for roads, electricity and pure drinking water, and did not reach the mobile network. Due to recent development works and administrative efforts, these villages are now joining the mainstream of development. The tricolor hoisting represents a symbolic of this changing environment and inclusive development, which raises the hope of a better future for these rural communities. This incident is a proof of the reach and efforts of the government in all the rural areas, where the ray of development is still yet to reach.
