Chiplun: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday visited the flood-affected Chiplun. He met officials and local representatives to assess the extent of damage and ongoing relief operation.

A financial review of the flood damage in the state will be carried out in a couple of days but now the district collectors concerned have been directed to immediately provide food, medicine, clothes and other necessities to the flood victims, Maharastra CM’s office informed.

Meanwhile addressing the Opposition’s allegations Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that “If you’re going to focus on the opposition, it’s not something for us to do. The work for all of us is to go beyond politics. It’s time to stand behind the people”.

This comes as relief work in monsoon-affected areas is going on in full swing. More than 100 people have died in Maharashtra alone due to rain-related incidents. Due to floods and incessant downpour, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has continued its rescue operations.

About 150 NDRF teams have been engaged in relief and rescue operations in floods and landslides-affected areas across India, as heavy downpour has disrupted normal lives in several states.

“34 teams of NDRF are working in Maharashtra, 7 teams are working in Karnataka and 8 teams are working in Telangana,” NDRF DG SN Pradhan said.

Meanwhile, the water from the Krishna river has entered nearby villages. 700-800 people have been rescued so far. “Our rescue operation will continue until the last person is safely rescued,” the NDRF inspector said.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister Narayan Rane and former CM Devendra Fadnavis visited Taliye landslide site in Raigad. Rane will be reporting the situation to PM Modi while teams of the NDRF and SDRF conduct rescue operations there.

“One more body has been recovered today. Total 43 bodies have been recovered so far. As per villagers, 30-40 more bodies are trapped under the debris,” NDRF Inspector Rajesh Yewale says.

It was reported that at least 112 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents while 99 were still missing in Maharashtra till Saturday night. According to the state government’s data, about 1 lakh 35 thousand people have been evacuated from the flood-affected areas.
