New Delhi: On the US’s decision to impose 27% retaliatory fee on India, exporters say that this will not only affect the demand in the short term, but will also increase the possibility of dumping from China. Exporters reported that American buyers have stopped their orders so far. But now the fee has been declared and in such a situation, the Indian suppliers will contact them and prepare the path ahead.
US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 10-50 percent duty on imports from various trading partner countries. In this regard, the order said that the basic fee of 10 percent will be applicable from Saturday, while other additional country-specific fees will be applicable from April 9.
In addition to the 20 percent fee already imposed on China, a counter -fee of 34 percent will be imposed. An exporter said that now the risk of dumping will increase as the US will impose more than 50 percent of the fees on China. In such a situation, we need to be careful on the import front. The government is also cautious.
The Confederation of the Indian Textile Industry said that at this time there is a fear of decline in demand and lack of clarity in America, the biggest concern. In such a situation it will be important to see how India establishes itself among its competitors.
Tariffs declared by the US offer better market access opportunities for India. In view of the uncertainty on the fee structure, Indian exporters will also have to find alternative markets. This will help them to maintain their exports.
The federation of Indian export organizations said that the US exports imposed on Indian exports have created a complex situation. Despite the challenges caused by tariffs, India’s position is comparatively favorable.
