News India Live, Digital Desk: Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has taken steps towards achieving such a success in the defense sector, which will add to the strength of the Indian Army and Air Force (IAF). India is now working rapidly on ‘Ramjet’ technology. This technology will not only increase the firepower of missiles, but will also increase their speed so much that the enemy’s air defense system will not even be able to detect it.

What is Ramjet technology and how does it work?

Ramjet is a type of ‘air-breathing’ engine. In ordinary missiles, oxidizer has to be carried along, which increases the weight of the missile. But the ramjet engine draws oxygen from the atmosphere during flight. It compresses air at very high speed and burns it with fuel to produce tremendous thrust. Due to this the speed of the missile becomes supersonic (faster than the speed of sound).

Why is it a gamechanger for the Indian Army and Air Force?

According to defense experts, after the introduction of this technology, India’s ‘air-to-air’ and ‘surface-to-air’ missiles will become even more lethal.

Long range precision strikes: Due to reduced weight, missiles will be able to carry more fuel, which will increase their range.

Supersonic Speed: The ramjet engine can provide the missile a speed of Mach 3 to Mach 6.

Accurate Aim: Due to the high speed, the enemy planes will not get a chance to recover.

DRDO’s mission: Big flight of self-reliant India

DRDO has been testing ‘Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet’ (SFDR) technology for quite some time. This technology will put India in the list of select countries which have their own indigenous ramjet technology. This will make the next variants of missiles like Astra more dangerous in future.

Tension between China and Pakistan will increase

This step of India is very important from strategic point of view amidst the ongoing tension on LAC and LOC. Missiles equipped with this technology will provide impenetrable armor to India’s borders, from the heights of the Himalayas to the ocean waves.
