Amidst the ongoing trade war with US President Donald Trump, China has refused to take 737 Max aircraft of American company Boeing , Taking advantage of the occasion, Air India is allegedly considering buying these aircraft from Boeing. Air India has joined the list of Asian Airlines that are competing to take advantage of the ongoing tariff war between Washington and Beijing.
Air India, owned by Tata Group, need aircraft to regain its leadership in the market and set foot. American aircraft manufacturer Boeing was preparing 734 Max aircraft for Chinese airlines. But China has withdrawn the aircraft order due to the tariff war. In such a situation, Air India is planning to buy these Boeing aircraft. In the past, Air India took advantage of China’s retreat. In March, it accepted a total of 41,737 Max Jets aircraft manufactured by Chinese Airlines, whose delivery was suspended after the model grounding in 2019.
Representatives of Air India and Boeing refused to comment on the matter. A media report said that Malaysia’s Aviation Group BHD is also interacting with Boeing to buy aircraft in this delivery slot lying vacant in China.
Restrictions imposed due to trade war
The trade war between the US and the Dragon is going on. Both were increasing tariffs on each other. The US has recently announced a 245 percent tariff increase on China. Earlier, China imposed 125 percent tariff on US products. Due to this trade war, China has stopped exporting several products at its ports. Delivery of 10 aircraft from the US was also canceled.
