In this series, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has laid the foundation of another new metro corridor, which will start from a grand underground station. Let us know everything about this new project.

Special station will be built for Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum

A special underground metro station will be built for the ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat’ National Museum to be built in the Central Vista area, the heart of Delhi. This station is also special because it is being built on priority basis keeping in mind the Central Vista Project. DMRC has also issued a tender worth Rs 206.5 crore for the construction of this station.

This station will be part of the Indraprastha-RK Ashram corridor of Phase 5A, which will connect the busiest areas of Delhi.

Phase 5 started, 18 new corridors will be built

This new station marks the beginning of the fifth phase (Phase 5) of Delhi Metro. In this phase, it is proposed to build a total of 18 new metro corridors, whose total length will be 206.5 kilometers. This huge project has been divided into two parts, out of which work will be done on the first part i.e. Phase 5A.

What is the plan for Phase 5A?

In Phase 5A, three corridors will be built on priority basis. Rs 11,150 crore will be spent on these and their total length will be about 15.8 kilometers. These three corridors are:

  1. Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1
  2. Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj
  3. Indraprastha to RK Ashram

Indraprastha-RK Ashram corridor will be completely underground

The corridor on which Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum Station will be built will go from Indraprastha to RK Ashram. This corridor will be 9.5 kilometers long and will be built completely underground. A total of eight stations will be built on this important route, which will connect many important places of Delhi:

  • Bharat Mandapam
  • Baroda House
  • India Gate
  • New Common Central Secretariat Building
  • Central Secretariat
  • Yuge Yuge India Museum
  • Shivaji Stadium
  • RK Ashram

Awaiting cabinet approval

Recently, the Network Planning Group has reviewed these three corridors and now they will be placed before the Union Cabinet for final approval. As soon as the green signal is received from the government, the tender process for the construction of the entire corridor and its remaining stations will be expedited. DMRC has already issued the tender for Museum Station and has indicated that this project is a high priority of the government.
