News India Live, Digital Desk: Global Tech Giant Apple is preparing to make a historic change in its manufacturing strategy. According to new reports, the company has made an ambitious plan to reduce its dependence on China: She wants India and China to start production simultaneously from the very first day of the iPhone 17 launch. This is an important step towards making Apple’s global supply chain more diverse and flexible.
Currently, most of Apple’s production facilities are still concentrated in China. However, due to the disruption in the supply chain during the Kovid-19 epidemic and increasing geopolitical tension between China-America, the company is now working fast on the ‘China Plus One’ strategy. Apple has been trying for many years to develop India as a major manufacturing center, but so far, the production of iPhones in India has been several months behind China. This meant that new models were first prepared in China, then formed for the Indian market.
Reports suggest that Apple’s engineering and production team is now working on the target that by mid -2024 (with the production cycle of iPhone 16) or by 2025 (for iPhone 17), manufacturing in India should be equal to China from the beginning. If Apple achieves this goal, it will be a milestone in global production, where the production of a new iPhone model will begin the same day in two different geographical areas of the world.
However, this is not easy. This includes solving technical challenges and several aspects of the supply chain. There will also be challenges of quality control and complex component supply. Many incentives are also being given by the government to promote electronics manufacturing in India, such as incentives related to production (PLI) schemes, which are attracting foreign companies. This will not only bring flexibility in the supply chain for Apple, but will also establish India as a major global manufacturing hub and create new employment opportunities at the local level.
