News India Live, Digital Desk: If you are a college student or associated with the education world, you must have often heard names like UGC (University Grants Commission), AICTE (for engineering) and NCTE (for teachers). Often there is confusion in the minds of students and the colleges themselves as to whose rules to follow and whose to leave. Sometimes there is tension regarding the syllabus, and sometimes there is a rush regarding recognition.

But now all this confusion is about to end. Recently, the Central Government has approved a very big bill, which will change the face of higher education in India.

Let us understand in simple language what new the government is going to do and what effect it will have on you.

One country, one regulator (Single Regulator Policy)
The simple thing is that the government now wants to create a ‘single regulator’ i.e. a single big institution instead of separate institutions like UGC, AICTE and NCTE. This Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) Some name may be given (although the official name will be clear after the bill is passed).

This means that except medical and law studies, all other higher education, be it engineering, arts, management or science, will all come under one roof.

What will be the benefit to students and colleges?
You may be wondering, “How will changing my name make any difference to me?” The difference is profound:

  1. Less Paperwork: Now if you want to open a college or start a new course, the files keep moving from here to there. With a single window, decisions will be taken quickly.
  2. Standard Quality: Till now there was a lot of difference in the standards of private and government colleges. In the new system, efforts will be made to ensure that the quality of education is the same everywhere.
  3. Flexible Study: this decision New Education Policy (NEP 2020) Is a part of. Its objective is that arts students can also learn coding and science students can learn music. This change is being made only to break the old walls.
  4. End of ‘Inspector Raj’: Earlier there was a lot of fear of inspection in colleges. In the new system, the focus will be more on “facilitating” and “monitoring” than “checking”. There is a plan to make everything digital and transparent.

What will happen next now?
After getting the approval of the Cabinet, this bill will now be presented in the Parliament. After passing from there, the old acts (UGC Act, AICTE Act etc.) will end and the new system will come into effect.

This is a big effort to take India’s education system to the global level. If this is implemented properly, our way of studying and getting degrees will become smoother and more modern than ever before.

This change is a bit big, so it may take time to be implemented, but it is certain that the education world will no longer follow the old pattern.
