India News Live, Digital Desk: The discussion of ‘Modi and Didi’s setting’ has been floating in West Bengal politics for a long time. Especially whenever there is no direct conflict between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, the opposition parties like the CPI -M repeat that there is a secret agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
However, the BJP has always dismissed this allegation outright, but there is doubt in the public’s mind. This subject has been becoming a part of discussion from tea shops to political forums.
Recently, during the campaign for the by -election in Kaliganj assembly seat in Nadia district, BJP’s organization general secretary Amitabh Chakraborty was questioned. A local worker told him that it arises repeatedly in the public that “Didi and Modi have a setting”, which makes it difficult to clarify BJP workers.
Amitabh gave an example of Odisha while answering this question. He told that when he was an organization in -charge in Odisha, then the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik used to meet the Prime Minister every month and also offer Prasad of Lord Jagannath. Even then people felt that there is “Naveen-Modi Setting”. But by winning the election there, the BJP broke this myth and proved that such allegations are made only in the air.
Now the BJP feels that the same argument should be conveyed to the public in Bengal as well. This example has increased confidence in BJP workers that in 2026 they will be able to completely deny this theory.
BJP state president Shamik Bhattacharya also believes that this alleged theory is an attempt to mislead the public. He clearly said that the real strength to remove Trinamool is BJP and the people of the state know this.
On the other hand, CPI -M state secretary Mohammad Salim does not agree with this argument. He says that the BJD and the BJP in Odisha never fought a real fight against each other and always cooperated. They allege that the BJP deliberately retained the Trinamool in power, so that the leftist government could not be formed.
However, how much this “setting theory” affects and how impressive the BJP’s answer is will be clear from the 2026 election results.
