News India Live, Digital Desk: India Russia Relations : Former US President Donald Trump has once again given a big statement regarding India, which has raised questions on the friendship between India and Russia. In one of his speeches, he clearly said that if he comes to power again, he can impose very heavy tariffs on India.

After all, why is Trump angry with India?

The biggest reason for Trump’s anger is India’s continuous buying of oil from Russia. He says that India is helping Russia by doing this, whereas he will not allow this to happen. Speaking to his supporters at a rally, Trump said, “India imposes very high tariffs on us. I also imposed tariffs on them. When they were buying oil from Russia, I stopped them.”

However, it is worth noting that India increased its oil purchases from Russia when tensions between Russia and Ukraine increased, and at that time Trump was not in power.

‘We will also impose tariffs’

Trump stressed that if other countries impose taxes on American products, they will also get a similar response. He said, “If India taxes us, we will also tax them equally.” Trump believes that because of his “tit-for-tat” policy, other countries respected America.

He also mentioned his good relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but also made it clear that when it comes to the country’s business, friendship has to be kept aside.

With this statement, the question has arisen that if Donald Trump wins the US elections to be held in November, what effect will it have on India’s foreign policy, especially relations with Russia. India has always followed its independent foreign policy, but Trump’s return can certainly present new challenges.
