ITR deadline extended: If you were also worried about the last date to file income tax return (ITR), then there is a lot of good news for you. In view of the technical difficulties coming on the new portal of income tax, the Rajasthan High Court has given a big and important verdict in favor of the taxpayers, which has breathed a sigh of relief.
Why need to increase the deadline lying?
You will remember that ever since the new portal of income tax has been launched, it has become a headache for taxpayers and chartered accountants (CAS). Due to frequent disturbances, slow speed and technical flaws on the portal, it was almost impossible to file tax audit reports and ITR on time.
The Association of Tax Consultants had filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court regarding this problem.
What did the High Court order?
Hearing the case, the Rajasthan High Court has directed the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to submit the tax audit report and file income tax returns (ITR) The deadline should be extended for a month.
The court admitted that when the tax paying portal is not working properly, it is not appropriate to pressurize taxpayers to file returns on time and impose a fine on them.
Who will get the benefit of this?
This decision of the court has given direct relief to all the taxpayers and companies, for which it is mandatory to get tax audit. Now they will get enough time to prepare their audit report and file ITR without any mistake.
Will deadline increase in the whole country?
Although this decision has been given by the Rajasthan High Court, but its effect can be seen all over the country. Tax professionals and taxpayers are facing similar problems across the country. In such a situation, it is expected that in view of this decision, CBDT may soon announce to increase the deadline of ITR filing for all taxpayers across the country.
Advice: Even though the deadline has increased, our advice is not to wait for the last date and as soon as the portal starts working properly, file your ITR.
