New Delhi: Filing income tax returns (ITR) for salaried taxpayers (Salarized Taxpayers) has now become easier than ever. The Income Tax Department has made the process so simple that now you can file your ITR in a few minutes. This has become possible due to the facility of ITR form with pre-filled information, which not only saves your time but also reduces the possibility of mistakes.

The Income Tax Department now collects various financial information related to your PAN card itself and fills your ITR form in advance. Let us understand how this process works for employed persons and how you can take advantage of it.

How does pre-filled ITR facility work?

ITR-1 (spontaneous) form is for employed persons. When you log in to the income tax e-filing portal, you will find most of the information in this form already filled. This information is taken from these sources:

  • Form 16: Description of your salary, allowance and TDS deduction from Form 16 released by your company.

  • Annual Information Details (AIS): Information about your savings account and interest from FD.

  • other sources: Other financial transactions you have made, such as income from stock market or mutual funds (if any).

Simple process to file ITR:

  1. Log in on the portal: First of all the E-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department (www.incometax.gov.in) Log in with your PAN number and password.

  2. Choose ITR Form: After logging in, go to the ‘E-File’ menu and choose ‘Income Tax Return’ and then click on ‘File Income Tax Return’. Here, select Assessment Year 2025-26 and select online mode.

  3. Choose the status: Now choose your status ‘Individual’ and choose the ITR-1 (spontaneous) form.

  4. Verify information: On opening the form, you will see that your personal information, income details and TDS information is already filled. Your job is to join and verify all these information with your form 16 and bank statement.

  5. Claim the cuttings: If you have made a tax -saving investment (such as 80C, 80D), which is not in the form, then add it here.

  6. E-verify: After confirming all the information, e-verify your returns through Aadhaar OTP or bank account. Only after e-verification, your ITR filing process is considered complete.

This simple process ensures that you can easily file your income tax return without help of a professional. Just don’t forget to check all your information carefully.
