Jagannath rath yatra 2025:The grand festival of bathing journey is celebrated every year at the world famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. On this special day, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra are bathed with holy and fragrant water of 108 urns extracted from the golden well located in the temple premises. This is the only opportunity throughout the year when devotees get the privilege of visiting the open of the three gods together. This tradition is also a symbol of the beginning of the Jagannath Rath Yatra festival, which is taken out every year on the second date of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month.
Why do God get sick after bathing?
It is believed that due to this excessive bath, Lord Jagannath gets fever and he becomes unwell for 15 days. This period is called ‘Anavasar Kaal’ or ‘Fever Leela’, in which God provides complete comfort and health benefits.During these 15 days, the doors of the temple are closed to the devotees, and the darshan of the gods is also forbidden. Only his private servants, called ‘Dayitagan’, are allowed to serve God in solitude.
Medical and Care:
During the ‘Anavasar Kaal’, Lord Jagannath is treated by a Vaidya. They are given only fruits, juice, porridge and medicines made of herbs like neem, turmeric, myrrh, Bahera, cloves (in the form of modak and decoction). Also, they are massaged with special oils. This period is also called the time of the ‘new youth’ (new youth) of the gods, when they are re -prepared for the Rath Yatra and their body is also renovated.
Message of humanity and the story of Madhav Das:
There is a deep spiritual message behind this unique tradition. It is believed that God also behaves like his devotees in human form – they are also ill, relax and then return to the devotees and return among the devotees.
A mythological story is associated with devotee Madhav Das. It is said that Madhav Das was an ardent devotee of Lord Jagannath, but once he fell seriously ill before the Rath Yatra. When he was unable to serve God or join the journey due to his illness, Lord Jagannath himself took the form of an ordinary person and helped him to be healthy. The more time it took for Madhav Das to get healthy, the more time God also went to the seclusion. This Leela reflects the unwavering love of God and devotee and sensitivity towards each other.
Rath Yatra 2025:
After the conclusion of ‘Anavasar Kaal’, on 27 June 2025, the world’s most grand religious journey, Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra will be taken out. During this time, millions of devotees reach Puri and get the privilege of pulling the huge chariots of God to the Gundicha temple.
