News India Live, Digital Desk: RIMS, located in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is seen as the largest medical institute in the state. Thousands of poor people come here every day to get their treatment. But for the last few years, this institute has been in the news less for its excellent health facilities and more for land related disputes. Now, the stand taken by the Jharkhand High Court in this entire matter has given sleepless nights to senior officials of the government and administration.
The matter is quite complex and old regarding illegal allotment of government land of RIMS for private or other wrongful activities. The High Court has clearly said that government land is not a charity that can be distributed to whoever wants. The court has now ordered action against all those officers, under whose nose all this happened or who contributed equally to this mess.
What is this land game?
Actually, the land owned by RIMS was reserved for the expansion of health facilities and better treatment of patients. But the files were “gamed” so much that the land gradually became a victim of illegal allotment. The matter dragged on for years, but now the strictness of the High Court has made it clear that the rule of law in Jharkhand is above the arbitrariness of any officer.
Now the sword of action is hanging
The court not only said that the allotted land should be taken back, but also asked for a list of those officers who were ‘silent’ sitting on their chairs at that time or were moving files forward. This attitude of the court clearly shows that big changes can be seen in the government departments of Ranchi in the coming days. Many such names may come to light which till now were considering themselves safe.
What does this mean for the general public?
If seen, this is not just a matter of land. The more space an institution like RIMS has, the better the arrangements the patients will be able to get. New buildings, trauma centers or parking—all this is possible only when the institute has its own land. This decision of the court is a big victory for those patients of Jharkhand who are forced to wander here and there due to lack of facilities.
This decision of the High Court is also a tough lesson for those people who are trying to fill their coffers considering government property as private property. It is expected that now not only the land will be returned, but the guilty officials will also be sent to jail.
It will be interesting to see whether the government now protects its “close” faces after this court order or actually uses legal action against them.
