Today, on November 5, 2025, the great festival of Kartik Purnima is being celebrated. It is not just a full moon, but one of the most sacred days of Hinduism. This is that special day when there is a golden opportunity to worship both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu together. It is believed that by bathing in the holy river on this day, doing charity and lighting a lamp, all sins are washed away and the doors of luck open.

Why is it called ‘Tripurari Purnima’ and ‘Dev Diwali’?

The story of this day is related to Lord Shiva. According to mythology, on this day Lord Shiva had killed a fierce demon named Tripurasura and saved all three worlds from his terror. For this reason he was called ‘Tripurari’ and this day was named ‘Tripurari Purnima’. In the joy of this victory, all the gods and goddesses came to earth and lit countless lamps on the banks of Ganga, since then this day also started being celebrated as ‘Dev Diwali’.

Today is an auspicious time for bathing, charity and worship.
