TheDelhi Liquor Policy Case: Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court today (June 6) rejected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's interim bail plea. Hearing the case, the court said, 'The election rallies prove that he (Kejriwal) is not suffering from any serious illness due to which he can get additional bail.' Special Judge Kaveri Baveja agreed with the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Bail cannot be granted on grounds of illness

Instead of granting interim bail, the court ordered the jail authorities to conduct a medical examination of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Arvind Kejriwal's custody was also extended till June 19. Special Judge Kaveri Baveja said, 'Arvind Kejriwal's election rallies, meetings and programs indicate that he does not appear to be suffering from any serious or life-threatening illness. The power to grant interim bail on the basis of illness should be exercised carefully and cautiously.'

What is the matter?

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in the alleged liquor policy scam of Delhi. Earlier, the ED had issued 9 summons to him for questioning in the case. However, Kejriwal did not appear on any summons. The central investigating agency alleges that he himself carried out the scam and was directly involved in demanding bribes from liquor traders.
