News India Live, Digital Desk: Virat Kohli took 18 years to win the Indian Premier League with Royal Challengers Bangalore, but when asked about a long wait to win the premiere domestic T20 franchise title, he did not lose his perspective.
RCB on Tuesday Ahmedabad I won their first title by defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final. He scored a 190/9 and then stopped Punjab at 184/7 and won for the first time in his fourth attempt.
Starting the innings, Kohli scored 43 runs at a strike rate of 122.86 with the help of three fours off 35 balls and ended the campaign as RCB’s highest run -scorer with 657 runs and eight fifties.
The former RCB captain said after the victory, “You know, this moment is one of the best moments of my career. But it still shows the five levels of Test cricket. I give so much importance to Test cricket. And I love Test cricket so much.”
Recently, Kohli, who retired from the Test, has been a great supporter of the traditional format and has urged the emerging players to understand its importance.
“Therefore, I would urge the youth coming to respect this format. Because if you perform well in Test cricket, you should go anywhere in the world, people see in your eyes and shake hands with you and say, wonderful, you played the game very well.
He said, “Therefore, if you want to earn respect in world cricket, then adopt Test cricket and put your heart and soul in it.”
But Kohli accepted the special feeling of winning the IPL as he eventually started a new chapter with RCB, for which he has played in all 18 versions of the tournament so far.
“If I say honestly, it is true. As I said, I have given my everything in the last 18 years. I have been loyal to this team.
“And I have always dreamed of winning it with them. And it is more special than winning with someone else because my heart is with Bangalore, my soul is with Bangalore. And as I said, this is the team for which I will play till the last day of playing IPL. So it is absolutely right.”
