Mumbai-Affus (Alphonso) mango of Konkan’s favorite Konkan has been given GI status. (Geographical Indication) Technology Award has been awarded. With this, consumers will not come under the pretense of fake Afus and the real Afus mango will be immediately identified.
The five districts of Konkan, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Palghar and Thane, have been given GI status. A tag will be provided. So far, 1,845 gardeners have applied for GI for Affus mangoes grown in their mango orchards. Tag received.
District Agriculture Superintendent Vandana Shinde said that the quality of opium grown in Konkan is due to the soil, water and specific climate. Therefore, to ensure that the quality of mangoes grown in other states is not similar to the mangoes grown in the Konkan region, the GI designations are issued reflecting the geographical identity of the specific region. This tag is given to the Afus of Konkan.
Meanwhile, like every year, this year too, there is a fraud to sell ripe mangoes of Karnataka in the name of ripe mangoes of Konkan. Karnataka has a small mango and its taste is different. Therefore, consumers have been warned to be careful with the fake Afu of Karnataka.
The producers and traders of Konkan have requested the Market Committee and the State Government’s Marketing Department to take appropriate action to stop the violation of the ‘brand’ of Konkan.
