Mumbai – The final decision on the sentence of the sacked police officer Abhay Kurundkar convicted in the famous Ashwini Bidre murder case will now be taken on Monday 21 April. On Friday, Judge Paldevar reserved the final verdict after convicting Kurundkar, listening to the arguments of the lawyers of both sides and listening to the final views of the Bidre family.
Ashwini Bidre, a missing assistant police officer for two and a half years, was murdered on 11 April 2016. Ashwini was killed by Abhay Kurundkar, a former senior police inspector of Bhayandar’s Navghar police station, with the help of his colleagues and her body was placed. In this case, Abhay Kurundarkar, two of his colleagues Kundan Bhandari and Mahesh Phatnikar were convicted by the Panwala Additional Sessions Court.
On Friday, the sentence of Panvel was heard in the Additional Sessions Court of Panvel. The court proceedings in this case lasted for three hours in the afternoon. During this time the court heard the side of the Bidre family. Government lawyer Pradeep Gharat demanded a death sentence for Kurundkar. However, the counsel for the accused, incidentally, submitted a copy of the final decision passed by another court. Judge Paldevar reserved the final verdict after hearing the arguments of the lawyers from both sides and the views of the Bidre family.
Ashwini’s daughter demanded a death sentence.
On Friday, the views of Bidre’s husband, daughter, brother and father were also registered in the court of Judge Paldewar. The daughter of the late Ashwini Bidre is currently studying in class XI. Judge Paldewar asked, “When did you see your mother for the last time?” Bindre’s daughter said that her father has been struggling to get justice in court for the last seven years. He expressed concern about the danger arising out of his father’s life before the court. My mother worked in a police force for the community. The credibility of the police is over.
Representing the Bidre family, government lawyer Pradeep Ghar criticized the functioning of the police. He said that the police is as guilty in this case as Abhay Kurundkar, who killed Ashwini Bidre. He said that hekani in registering an FIR and delay in investigation, is part of the conspiracy to save Abhay Kurundkar. Ashwini’s brother Anand said that the society has lost faith in the police, as the police killed his colleague in this case.
