News India Live, Digital Desk: Cricket fans and experts suffered a major setback when India’s legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was unusual in the UAE’s International League T20 (ILT20) auction. A player whose tremendous experience in T20 cricket and the all -rounder with both bat and ball is well known, no franchise bid for him. His base price was fixed at US $ 120,000 (about Rs 1.06 crore).

After this surprising incident, a big ‘twist’ has surfaced. Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doll said during a live auction that Ashwin had probably withdrawn his name from the auction after being ignored in the first round. The mum described it as a “very surprise” and criticized that Ashwin should have “read the situation,” because many teams still had a lot of money left in the auction and she could bid them in the later rounds.

The conflict in the scheduling (organizing dates) is also considered a major reason behind Ashwin’s remaining unusual. The ILT20 league will run from 2 December to 4 January, while Ashwin has signed for Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), which will run from 14 December to 25 January. Although Ashwin had earlier talked about getting delayed in BBL, the conflict between the two leagues could be a major reason for withdrawing their names from LT20, so that frequent travel and sports pressure can be avoided.

Recently, in August 2025, Ashwin also announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) to play in other T20 leagues around the world. However, this result of the ILT20 auction has been like a shock for him. Ashwin has not yet made any statement on the matter.
