HC 1741099367124 1741857428100

Advertising his law firm on social media platform Linkedin overshadowed a firm. The Madras High Court has ordered the CBCID (Crime Branch Crime Investigation Department) of the Tamil Nadu Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the law firm.

It is alleged that the operator of the law firm is neither a registered lawyer nor does he have a law degree. The High Court expressed deep concern over this and raised the question that how can a person run a law firm without studying law?

What is the whole matter?

  • The law firm on which an inquiry has been ordered is named “JMI Law Associates”.
  • It was run by a person named Jamal Mohammad Ibrahim, who is not a lawyer.
  • The firm also included two other people named Preeti Bhaskar and Kamlesh Chandrasekaran.
  • It is alleged that the firm was involved in some suspected land transactions in Maylapur, Chennai.

Was wrong publicity on Linkedin

According to the report of the Bar and Bench:

  • JMI law associates promoted their services on Linkedin.
  • He conducted an advertisement citing regular orders of the court.
  • High Court Justice Eddie Jagdish Chandira expressed strong objections to this and described it against the dignity of the legal profession.

Big disclosure of fraud

The High Court also took cognizance that the operators of JMI Law firm used to adopt a dangerous strategy:

  1. The first lands were filed against the encroachment.
  2. Then the land owners would appear in the court.
  3. Later, the same land owners used to put pressure on the owners to leave the land.

“Legal profession is not a business” – High Court

Justice Chandira said:

“The legal profession is considered a great profession, not a business. The lawyers are expected to have full honesty and fairness. If a lawyer misuses the processes of the court, it is a professional misconduct. ”

1. Order to investigate CBCID:

  • Illegal activities of JMI Law Associates will be investigated.
