Following the massive viewership of its inaugural run on the platform, streaming giant Netflix has officially greenlit ‘Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa’ Season 2. The announcement, shared via social media with the tagline “Laut raha hai Lock Upp, bhaag kar jaoge kahan?”, confirms the continuation of the high-stakes, jail-themed reality format.
Alongside the renewal announcement, makers put an end to hosting speculation: filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan and Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh will officially return as the show’s dual jailers and hosts.
The Hosting Duo: Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh Back as Jailers
While the original 2022 edition of Lock Upp was hosted by Kangana Ranaut on ALTBalaji, the franchise transitioned to Netflix with a revamped identity and dynamic under the title Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa.
-
Farah Khan: Brings sharp wit, candid critique, and directorial control to the interrogation rounds, calling out fake narratives and strategic deceit inside the cells.
-
Riteish Deshmukh: Complements the panel with his trademark charisma, grounded perspective, and authoritative presence during weekly elimination trials and courtroom showdowns.
Together, the duo established strong viewer engagement during the debut Netflix edition, prompting the makers to lock them in as the official hosts once again.
High Stakes and Strict Format: What to Expect in Season 2
Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms, the format subjects celebrity contestants to spartan conditions, psychological challenges, and unexpected eliminations:
-
No Luxuries: Contestants surrender personal devices, private amenities, and routine comforts, fighting for daily rations through physical and mental tasks.
-
Secret Reveal Mechanism: Inmates can access power advantages or avoid immediate eviction chargesheets only by publicly confessing deep-rooted personal secrets.
-
Judgement Day Trials: The hosts step inside the precinct for intense cross-examinations, holding inmates accountable for their weekly conduct and strategic gameplay.
Release Date and Contestant Lineup
While Netflix has dropped the teaser poster confirming the second installment, the official premiere date and contestant roster remain closely guarded. Production is underway, with casting directors reportedly approaching prominent faces across television, digital streaming, and social media.
