Mahashivratri is on 15th February, know the exact time of four-hour puja to get the blessings of Mahadev:

Religion Desk, New Delhi. In Sanatan Dharma, the day of Mahashivratri is considered to be the biggest festival of spiritual consciousness and devotion. It is believed that the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati took place on this auspicious date. Also, on this day Mahadev appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga.

In the year 2026, Mahashivratri fast will be observed on 15 February (Sunday). Since ‘Nishith Kaal’ (midnight time) has special significance in the worship of Mahashivratri and it is falling on the night of 15th February, hence devotees will observe fast on this day and perform Jalabhishek of Devadhidev Mahadev.

The details of Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month are as follows:

Chaturdashi Tithi Start: February 15, from 05:04 pm onwards.

Chaturdashi date ends: 16 February, till 05:34 pm.

Mahashivratri fast date: 15 February 2026.

Auspicious time for four-hour puja (Maha Shivratri Pujan Muhurat)

There is a special tradition of worshiping at four o’clock in the night on Mahashivratri. It is believed that by praising Shiva in these Muhurtas, one gets freedom from the sins of many births.

Nishith Kaal Puja Muhurat: night of 16th february 12:09 am to 01:01 am Till (This is considered to be the most powerful time for worshiping Mahadev).

Mahashivratri worship method and importance

Jalabhishek: Devotees take bath early in the morning and go to Shiva temples to anoint Shivalinga with Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, Ganga water).

Belpatra and Dhatura: Offering Belpatra, Dhatura, plum and hemp to Mahadev is considered very auspicious.

Awakening: Jagran has special significance on the night of Mahashivratri. Devotees chant ‘Om Namah Shivay’ and recite Shiva Purana throughout the night.

Aarti of Lord Shiva (Shiv Aarti)

At the end of the puja, ‘Jai Shiv Omkara’ aarti must be sung. It is believed that the devotees who sing Lord Shiva’s Aarti with full devotion, according to Swami Shivanand, they get the desired results and the troubles of their life go away.
