What is needed to make pakodas?
- Yellow Moong Dal: 1 cup
- Onion: 2, finely chopped
- Green chilly: 2, finely chopped
- Ginger: 1 inch piece, grated
- Green Coriander: 2 tbsp, finely chopped
- Cumin: ½ tsp
- Asafoetida: a pinch
- chilli powder: ½ tsp (or as per taste)
- Salt: as per taste
- Oil: to fry
How to make – in just 3 easy steps
Step 1: Preparation of Dal
First of all, wash moong dal thoroughly and soak it in clean water for 3-4 hours. When the lentils swell well, drain out all the water. Now put it in the mixer and mix without adding water or with very little water (just 1-2 teaspoons). grind coarsely,
An important tip: Do not make a completely smooth paste of the dal, keeping it a little coarse will make the pakodas crunchy.
Step 2: Add spices
Now take out the ground lentils in a big bowl. Add finely chopped onion, green chilli, grated ginger, green coriander, cumin, asafoetida, red chilli powder and salt as per taste. Mix all these things well with a spoon or hands so that all the spices get mixed in the dal. Now leave this mixture like this for 10-15 minutes.
Step 3: Frying Time
Heat oil in a pan. When the oil becomes medium hot, reduce the flame to low. Now take the mixture little by little with the help of hand or spoon and put it in the oil. You can make them round or slightly flat as per your wish.
Fry the pakodas on low flame till they turn golden and crisp. If fried on high flame, they may remain raw from inside. When the pakodas are ready, take them out on a plate on tissue paper to remove excess oil.
Your hot, delicious and crunchy moong dal-onion pakodas are ready! Serve them with your favorite green or sweet chutney and double the fun of your evening tea.
