In Hindu religion, there are many full moons throughout the year, but ‘Margashirsha Purnima’ has its own status. In the scriptures, the month of Margashirsha is considered to be the form of Lord Shri Krishna himself. Now this holy month is nearing its end and its last day i.e. Purnima can prove to be a boon for us.

On this full moon falling on 4th December, not only Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi ji but also Mother Annapurna and Moon God shower their blessings. It is said that even a donation of Rs 1 made on this day is returned 100 times. So let us know the complete details of this auspicious day.

Note down the right time (auspicious time)

This time there is no confusion regarding the date of full moon.
According to the Panchang, Purnima Tithi starts at 08:38 am on December 4 (Thursday).
This date will remain till 04:43 in the morning of the next day, i.e. 5th December.
Since the full moon and the fast are on 4th December, we will celebrate this festival on this day.

Why is this day so special?

Margashirsha Purnima is called the ‘great festival’ of charity and virtue. It is believed that bathing in holy rivers, especially Ganga, on this day washes away the sins of many births. If you cannot go to the river, then mix some Ganga water in the bathing water at home and take a bath by saying “Har Har Gange”, you will get equal results. This day is best for bringing mental peace and stability in the home.

What to do on this day so that happiness comes home?

If you want your house to be full of wealth, then do these small measures:

  1. Satyanarayan Katha: It is very auspicious to listen to the story of Lord Satyanarayan at home today. Also distributed churma prasad.
  2. Annadan: Mother Annapurna is also worshiped on this day. It is very virtuous to feed a poor or needy person or donate raw grains.
  3. Tulsi Puja: Light a ghee lamp near Tulsi ji in the evening and do parikrama.
  4. Sun and Moon worship: Offer water to the Sun in the morning and Arghya to the Moon at night. This pacifies the defects of the horoscope.

Don’t do this even by mistake

Keep in mind that no mistakes should be made while earning virtue:

  • Anger and resentment: Maintain peace at home. Do not shout at anyone or criticize anyone.
  • Food: Eat only satvik food today. Stay away from Tamasic things like onion, garlic, meat and alcohol.
  • Lie: Try not to utter any false words from your mouth today.

So, on this Margashirsha Purnima, get absorbed in devotion, Shri Hari and Maa Lakshmi will definitely visit your house.
