A survey has found that 16,343 children are suffering from malnutrition in suburban areas of Mumbai. In February 2025, 2,38,094 children were registered. Of these, 2,34,896 children were weighed and measured. 2,887 children were severely malnourished and 13,457 children were mildly mounted in malnourished category. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has developed the Nutrition Tracker app. This app was developed for the beneficiaries of Anganwadi centers, employees and nutrition scheme.
The high number of malnourished children in developed areas such as Mumbai urban district (three taluka and suburbs Kurla, Andheri and Borivali) is a matter of concern. The government is planning to set up more child development centers for malnourished children.
In the year 2023, the Bombay High Court issued an order to the government. It was ordered to distribute smartphones with posh tracker app among Anganwadi workers.
In October 2024, an NGO (non-governmental organization) launched a nutrition program for 1,000 prescript and 3,000 primary school children in Mumbai, which lasted for six months.
Food was provided to children between three and 14 years of age (artificially essential nutrients and millet) food to children aged three to 14 years in slums in Mumbai.
The report said that 35 percent of children in Maharashtra are underdeveloped, 36 percent are less weight and 10 percent are very thin.
