News India Live, Digital Desk: Indian Team: The controversy that took place after India’s stunning victory over Pakistan in the recent Asia Cup 2025 final is now coming from all over the world. AB de Villiers, the great South African batsman and known as Mr. 360, has also expressed his opinion on this entire development. He clearly said that politics should be kept away from sports and he is very sad to see this dispute.
The controversy began when the Indian team refused to take the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In fact, the Indian camp was angry with the ongoing tension between India-Pakistan players during the alleged anti-India posts and tournaments on Naqvi’s social media. Due to this tussle, the Indian team had to wait more than an hour to take the winning trophy, and according to many reports, finally the Indian team had to celebrate the victory without the trophy.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, de Villiers expressed disappointment on the incident. He said, “Team India was probably not happy with the person giving the trophy. I don’t think it is a part of the game. Politics should be kept separate. The game is a different thing and it should be celebrated in the same way. It was very sad to see it.” He also added that such incidents put the players in a very difficult situation, and they do not like to see when the players are burdened with political controversies.
During this time, a lot of tussle was also seen between India and Pakistan in the tournament. Indian players had allegedly refused to join hands with Pakistani players earlier, which was seen as opposition to Pahalgam terror attack. In response, Pakistani players also made some gestures like “Jet Down”, which were increasing tension.
However, de Villiers also praised the Indian team’s great performance. He said, “Let’s focus on the most important thing (cricket). India looks very strong, and the preparation of the next T20 World Cup is going well. They have a lot of talent, and they perform well on big occasions. It’s fantastic.”
AB de Villiers has hoped that such disputes will be resolved in future and the playground will only witness the sportsmanship.
