The national capital Delhi today witnessed a major demonstration when Muslim organizations across the country took to the streets against Waqf law. A ‘Save Waqf Conference’ was organized on the occasion, which included representatives of various religious, social and political organizations under the leadership of All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
Increased dissatisfaction on revised Waqf law
This demonstration is being done by the Central Government in protest against the recently revised Waqf Act. There is a deep dissatisfaction about this law in the Muslim community. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has clearly demanded immediate cancellation of the law and has also appealed to people to support the campaign.
Case under consideration in Supreme Court
It is worth noting that in response to the petitions filed in the Supreme Court, the Central Government has assured not to make the Waqf properties non-deferred by May 5 and not make new appointments in Waqf Parishad and State Waqf Boards.
Strong trend of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind
The national meeting of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind between 12 and 15 April passed important resolutions under the chairmanship of Syed Sadatullah Hussaini, president of the organization. Apart from the cancellation of the Waqf law, the organization has also strongly opposed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The organization believes that the UCC is a violation of the constitutional rights of individual laws of religious communities.
Appeal to democratic institutions and civil society
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has appealed to democratic institutions, civil society and intellectuals to spread awareness about the effects of Waqf law. The organization also thanked the MPs and organizations who have given their support on the issue.
