Objections raised against the bill

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has once again raised questions about the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024. Board member Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali said that more than 90% of Waqf properties are in the form of mosques, cemeteries, dargahs and Imambars, which do not have any income, yet controversy is being raised about them.

He said, “These assets have been handled by the Muslim community for centuries. When there is no financial benefit from them, why are objections against them?”

Protests held in Patna

Earlier, on Wednesday, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board in Patna launched a nationwide demonstration against the Waqf Amendment Bill.

BJP MP retaliation

BJP MP and Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) president Jagdambika Pal accused the board of doing politics and misleading minorities. He said, “The protest has no meaning until the law has passed.”

What does the government say?

The government says that the aim of Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 is to digitize Waqf properties, implement better audit system and strengthen the legal process to remove illegal occupations. The government clarified that this amendment is being done not only for the Muslim community, but in the interest of the entire country.
