New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and MP from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi has once again created a stir in political corridors with his statements. Recently, during the debate on ‘Operation Sindoor’ and Pahalgam terror attack in Parliament, Owaisi strongly targeted the government over the proposed cricket match between India and Pakistan. He said that his conscience does not allow him to watch this match.
Blood and water cannot flow together – Owaisi’s attack on the government
Referring to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, in which many innocent people lost their lives, Owaisi questioned the government’s policy. He asked that when India has almost stopped trade, air connectivity and other diplomatic relations with Pakistan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that “blood and water cannot flow together,” then how is it justified to play a cricket match in such an environment? He said in sharp words that it is not acceptable to move forward in the name of sportsmanship with the country whose terrorists kill the citizens of India.
Owaisi also asked whether the government has the courage to ask the families of those killed in Pahalgam that they have avenged terrorism and now go and watch Pakistan’s match. Questioning the “insensitivity” of the government, he said that when the business relationship and water sharing are affected, how can the game remain untouched.
The issue of political rhetoric and nationalism
While this statement of Asaduddin Owaisi has appreciated his supporters on the one hand, on the other hand some people are describing it as part of a special political agenda. Discussions on Indo-Pak relations and nationalism are often heated on such sensitive occasions, and Owaisi has always raised a vocal voice in these debates. This time too, his ‘Zamir’ statement on the cricket match has come up like a “bouncer” in Parliament’s heated debate, which has deepened the ongoing debate between the emotional and national spirit of the country.
