Mumbai – Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Narwane criticized those who advocated the war with Pakistan and said that war is not a romantic Bollywood film. Speaking at an event in Pune, he highlighted the destructive human and social cost of armed struggle and emphasized the priority of diplomacy in resolving disputes.
General Narwane referred to recent incidents, including Operation Sindoor and attacks on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, resulting in the end of military attacks. He clarified that it is not a formal ceasefire but a suspension of operations. He appealed to the public to keep a close watch on the developments.
He admitted that people are disappointed that war is not going on, but he warned against glorifying violence. Narwane said that war is a serious matter, which causes mental anguish, death of innocent people and has a long -term impact on families. He said that such destruction crosses boundaries and generations.
Narwane defended the surgical strike, saying that this is a strategic move, which Pakistan realized the heavy price and had to be ready for talks. However, Narwane said that violence should always be the last solution and disputes should be resolved through negotiations, whether it is personal or national.
Regarding national security expenditure, he justified 15 percent budget allocation for defense and compared it to the insurance premium required for national preparations. Narwane said that the competent army stops it before the war begins and ensures national security through strength and preparation rather than war.
